On a sunny Tuesday, August 20th, The Holly Lodge Centre partnered with The Royal Parks to host a ‘Nature Roadshow’ in Richmond Park. The Roehampton Gate Gardens were transformed into a hands on exploration of the park’s nocturnal wonders attracting over 150 curious visitors. This free pop up event, was a hit with the families who dropped by as there really was something for everyone to engage with and enjoy.
Unveiling the Night-time World:
Our theme for the day was ‘Nocturnal Animals’ and we aimed to educate visitors about the fascinating world that emerges after dark! Nocturnal animals possess extraordinary senses to navigate the night, so we challenged our visitors to test their own sight, smell, touch and hearing.
Animal Tracks and Treasures:
We explored the evidence left behind by these night-time inhabitants, creating tracks and badger poo that sparked laughter and excitement! Young explorers dug for badger food, discovering the incredible fact that badgers can consume up to 200 worms in a single night!
Batty Adventure:
The children donned bat capes and swooped around the gardens, embracing their inner nocturnal creatures. They also created impressive colourful bat artwork.
A Day of Discovery:
The event was a resounding success with families enjoying the sunny day and engaging with our enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers who are always on hand to guide our inquisitive and eager learners. Everyone had a super time trying out the various activities and taking home interesting souvenirs.
