During the Easter and the Summer holidays we are always thrilled to welcome families from the Skylarks Charity. This Richmond upon Thames based organisation provides invaluable support to children with disabilities and additional needs, as well as their siblings, parents and carers.
A Skylarks Sanctuary:
It’s always a privilege to host the Skylarks team, and families at The Holly Lodge Centre. We approach these workshops with a unique twist, creating a “free-flow session” on our nature trail. This allows families to explore at their own pace, engaging in a variety of self led and volunteer-supported activities.
A Maurice Sendak-inspired Wonderland:
Drawing inspiration from the beloved children’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are,’ we transformed our nature trail into a magical wonderland. From crafting nature crowns to making animal print tote bags and exploring the hidden depths of ponds, there was something for everyone to discover and enjoy.
Unforgettable Experiences:
The response from the Skylark families was overwhelmingly positive. One parent wrote, “We have loved the outdoor session, so much to do and such a lovely, supportive atmosphere. I really appreciate the thought put into everything and the range of activities. Thank you for including our son’s older sibling. It’s great we can all come together as a family. It’s a very special place.” Another parent shared, “Wonderful, fun, relaxed and safe adventures exploring nature. Lots of exciting activities to engage with. It is a joy to be outside. Gentle, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic staff to guide the young explorers.”
A Community Effort
We are always striving to offer these valuable sessions free of charge, if you would like to donate to our cause please click here. And of course, a huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, whose dedication and enthusiasm make our work possible.
