We were thrilled to get up close to some of the birds living on the nature trail.
Starting at 7.30am in the morning, ornithology expert, Bill Haines conducted a survey of the bird species who make their home here. The nature trail was selected for the survey due to the high number of birds visiting the bird feeders we put out. It was absolutely amazing to watch Bill at work as he caught, ringed, weighed and measured our feathered friends. Bird ringing is used to study migration and bird populations.
Over the course of the morning 50 birds were caught, with 13 species found. These included a goldcrest (Britains smallest bird), over 20 blue tits, great tits, blackcap, chiffchaff, chaffinch, goldfinch, 2 woodpeckers and one very large parakeet!
